The Local Water Supply

On the right, you will see how water is collected, in this case in a plastic bucket, which then has to be carried back to the village and used as drinking water. This is as good as it gets. As you can see the water is brown, which indicates that at the very least is is impure with whatever else is in or using the river.

Below, you will see that the same river is being used upstream for bathing, and also for washing clothes. The river is therefore a source of drinking water, a bathroom, and a laundry. it also contains whatever any river would contain in the way of pollutants washed down from further upstream including anything that might have died in it.

Cattle, and no doubt other animals use the same river for drinking in, bathing and whatever else cattle do in water that it is best not to know about.

We will not show you how these pollutants affect the health of these people, nor will we show you diseased and pained children and adults in the village, because this is not that sort of web site, and in any case you have seen it all before on the Oxfam Posters and in other places. These people have their dignity. We just want to help them retain it. They are lovely people and at the same time ordinary people just like you and me, but in desperate need of help.
